Northern Kentucky University’s Collegiate Entrepreneurs’ Organization (NKUCEO) brought in Dr. Jeffrey Stamp of Bold Thinking and some of the In One Weekend facilitator team to kick off and lead an innovation event on Friday, March 27 and Saturday, March 28, 2009. NKUCEO recruited other NKU students and student organizations to help with the process and creation of a successful business to operate out of the new dorm space in Callahan Hall.
InOneWeekend is an innovative and entrepreneurial organization that (among other things) hosts open format weekend events that create viable participant-driven start-ups that are launched ‘in one weekend.’ InOneWeekend, a local entrepreneurial business organization, works in communities around the world to produce periodic events that not only build a company in a weekend, but also create an enduring network of innovation and entrepreneurship. They connect passion with success. They believe that new ideas come to fruition faster when the creative minds and enthusiastic leaders of tomorrow can brainstorm and collaborate with the successful entrepreneurs of yesterday. Dr. Jeffrey Stamp, InOneWeekend's content and creative specialist, facilitated the event and offered professional feedback and advice. NKU students did the rest.
Together, they created, Dorm by Design, a company that provides students living on campus with personalized options for their dorm rooms. Special programs specifically designed for parents were conceptualized as gifts for their children. Options included upgraded furniture, plasma TVs, audio systems, lighting designs, and theme related designs. Partnerships were explored during the weekend with possible vendors such as IKEA and Sears.
